Meet the Maker

Aloha & welcome

My name is Sara Joy, and I’m the maker behind Sara Joy’s Ceramics.

I began my journey with clay at 16 years old in high school. During a chaotic time in my life, ceramics became a source of calm, grounding, and joy. I often say pottery saved me and in many ways, it truly did. It gave me a way to process emotions I didn’t yet have words for, shaping them into something tangible and meaningful. It reminded me that I, too, am here to be shaped, molded, and exist.

I quickly fell in love with creating functional pieces from scratch. There’s something almost magical about taking a lump of clay and transforming it into something both beautiful and useful. What started as a creative outlet grew into a deeper passion, leading me to earn a ceramics scholarship in college, where I studied under one of my favorite artists and mentors, Trudy Woods.

Working with clay taught me more than just technique, it taught me patience, presence, persistece and resilience. The process, from start to finish, takes time. Not every piece survives, and not everything goes as planned. Pottery has a way of humbling you, reminding you to let go, adapt, and keep creating. It’s taught me how to move through challenges with more ease and less attachment.

After stepping away for a time, I eventually found my way back to clay. In April 2025, I joined a studio in Las Vegas and reconnected with the craft that had always felt like home.

Today, I am an instructor at Common Ground Pottery in Henderson and I create thoughtfully designed, functional pieces meant to be used and loved every day. My goal is simple: to create work that not only serves a purpose, but also brings warmth, joy, and intention into people’s lives.
